If you live in another country different to China, chances are that it will be quite difficult, if not impossible, to be able to purchase goods in taobao.com by yourself. This is because most of the taobao sellers don’t speak English (only Chinese) hence the communication is not easy. Additionally, for the payments, the majority of the sellers only will accept RMB (Chinese yuan) as currency, and through alipay, China’s most popular online payment gateway (similar to paypal) for which you would need to have a bank account in China in RMB. And last, but not least, the sellers would be shipping goods to address within Chinese territory; there have not experience shipping abroad.
For all these reasons, if you are buying from another country, you are likely to consider to buy your items through a taobao agent. Why? because they will handle all mentioned above and allow you to pay in US$ through paypal. Additionally is very convenient if you are buying items from multiple buyers as the agent can consolidate all packages in one single shipment to you, hence saving shiping costs.
